Choosing the Right Cordless Drill Line for Your Market
Which drill line fits your market depends on three things: where you are selling, who your end customer is, and what channel you are supplying. The guidance below is intended to help you narrow down the right direction before making contact.
By Destination Market
For EU and UK markets, certification requirements should be confirmed per model at the inquiry stage.
If you are targeting specific retail channels or compliance frameworks, it is recommended to define the scope before sample approval.
For the North American market, certification such as UL, ETL, or CSA should be confirmed per model during the RFQ stage.
If your project requires retail listing or platform compliance, requirements should be clarified early to avoid delays.
For the South America market, Certification requirements in South America vary significantly by country, such as INMETRO (Brazil) or NOM (Mexico).
If you are sourcing for this region, requirements should be discussed during the initial sourcing evaluation to ensure feasibility.
By Buyer Type
Importers & Distributors
building a branded range typically anchor on the drill or hammer drill as a core SKU, then extend into brushless or compact depending on channel breadth.
Private Label & E-Commerce
often start with a single model at MOQ to test market reception before expanding SKU count or scaling volume.
Wholesalers
benefit from the shared 18V/20V battery platform across three of our four drill lines — simplifies stocking and reduces accessory SKU complexity.
Value & Promotional Buyers
typically focus on the compact 12V or entry-level 18V/20V drill where unit cost and bundle configuration are the primary factors.
OEM & Private Label Cooperation
All four cordless drill lines are available for OEM and private label cooperation. What can be customised, how the process works, and how to get started are covered below.

Standard Customisation Options
Most OEM programs start from our existing, market-validated product structures. This reduces development risk while maintaining flexibility for branding and specification adjustments.
- Tool Body Colour: Pantone reference accepted; standard and custom finishes available.
- Logo & Branding: Molded, pad-printed, or label integration on tool body and packaging.
- Packaging: Custom retail box or clamshell design; multilingual documentation supported.
- Accessory Set: Standard or custom bundle configuration per market requirement.
Engineering-Level Customisation
For buyers with specific performance requirements beyond standard configurations:
- Battery capacity: 1.3Ah, 1.5Ah, 2.0Ah options confirmed at OEM specification stage.
- Bare tool configuration: Without battery and charger, for buyers with existing compatible platform users.
- Voltage options: 12V, 18V/ 20V platforms available across the range.
- Certification alignment: Configuration adjusted to meet CE, GS, or UL test requirements before sampling begins.

Standard Commercial Terms
Terms apply per model — a drill and a hammer drill each carry their own MOQ, but can be produced in the same batch and shipped together. Buyers building a multi-SKU brushless range on the 20V platform can consolidate the CD2070 and CD2060T into a single order.
How a First OEM Order Typically Works
A first cordless drill OEM order begins with sample evaluation — confirm the drill type, voltage platform, motor type, and battery configuration before committing to production. Once the sample is approved, OEM specification is confirmed: tool body colour, logo placement, packaging artwork, and accessory bundle. Production scheduling begins once the deposit is received.

Manufacturing Facility & Quality Control
FirstRate operates from our own facility in Changzhou, Jiangsu. Production, assembly, and quality control are all handled on-site.

Incoming Material Inspection
Components are checked against specification before assembly begins — motor components, battery cells, PCB assemblies, and mechanical parts. Off-spec materials are rejected at this stage, not discovered during pre-shipment.
In-Process & Assembly Checks
- Torque output test: Verified against specification at key assembly stages.
- No-load speed test: Both speed settings checked for each unit.
- Hammer function check: BPM and impact response verified on hammer drill models.
- Electronic control response: Variable speed and reverse-action switch response confirmed.
- LED and display test: Work light and power display function verified.

Outgoing & Pre-Shipment Inspection
Each finished unit undergoes load testing, battery charge/discharge verification, and mechanical inspection before packaging. Third-party pre-shipment inspection — SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek, or buyer-appointed agents — can be arranged on request. AQL levels and inspection scope should be confirmed at the RFQ stage.
If you’d like to see the full protocol — test parameters, AQL levels, and sample reports — it’s all on our Quality Control page
Certification & Compliance
The primary international standard for cordless drills is IEC 62841 / EN 62841 (EU and UK), with UL 62841 applying to the North American market. Certification availability varies by model and destination market — confirm requirements per drill line at the inquiry stage.
- CE: Required for EU & EEA markets.
- UL / ETL: North American compliance pathway.
- GS: German safety mark.
- RoHS / REACH: Material documentation available for PAH, REACH, and RoHS compliance requirements.
Certification scope is confirmed per model and per destination market. Not all certifications apply to all configurations.

Why Buyers Choose FirstRate
For buyers evaluating OEM cordless drill suppliers, these are the structural differences that affect program outcomes — not just unit cost.
Manufacturer & Exporter, Changzhou
Our facility, production team, and export operations are all in Changzhou. Specification, scheduling, and quality questions are handled by the people building the product — not passed through a trading layer. 15+ years of continuous B2B export production, six assembly lines, 100+ staff.
Shared 20V Platform Across Brushless Lines
The brushless drill (CD2070) and brushless hammer drill (CD2060T) run on the same 20V battery platform. One order can cover both SKUs without separate battery SKUs or charger logistics. Relevant for buyers building a multi-SKU professional range from a single order.

Frequently Asked Questions
Unit cost is influenced by four main factors: drill type (drill, hammer drill , brushless, or compact), motor type (brushed vs brushless), OEM configuration (colour, packaging complexity, accessory set), and order volume. Brushless models carry a higher unit cost than brushed equivalents at the same voltage. OEM packaging and custom accessory bundles add to the per-unit cost relative to standard configurations. To receive an accurate quote, share your target drill type, OEM requirements, destination market, and estimated order volume.
MOQ is 500 pcs per model. Sample lead time is 7–10 days. Production lead time is 45–60 days from deposit confirmation. Payment terms are T/T — 30% deposit, 70% before shipment. Trade terms are FOB Shanghai.
Yes. Our drill, hammer drill and brushless drill all run on the same 18V/20V battery platform, so they can be produced in the same batch and shipped together. Each model needs to meet the 500 pcs minimum individually. This makes it practical to launch a two- or three-SKU cordless drill range from a single order.
Yes. Battery capacity options are confirmed per model at the OEM specification stage. If you have a runtime requirement, a target weight, or a retail price point that affects battery selection, raise it during the sample evaluation — we will advise on the available options for your chosen drill line.
Yes. Bare tool configurations are available for buyers whose customers already hold a compatible battery platform, or for brands building a battery-sold-separately product line. Confirm the configuration at the OEM specification stage.
The primary standard for cordless drills in the EU is EN 62841 (based on IEC 62841), which covers handheld motor-operated electric tools. CE marking under this standard is required for EU market entry. For the UK, the equivalent is UKCA. Confirmation of per-model coverage is done at the RFQ stage — raise your market requirement in your initial inquiry.
Yes. Tool body colour is part of our standard OEM scope. Specify your target colour at the inquiry stage. Colour confirmation is typically done at the OEM specification stage before production begins, and a colour sample can be reviewed before full production is approved.
The decision is primarily about product tier and margin positioning rather than end-user performance alone. Brushed models carry a lower unit cost and suit value or mid-tier retail channels. Brushless models command a higher wholesale price and are appropriate for mid-to-premium trade channels or professional private label lines where runtime and tool life are selling points. If you are unsure which fits your channel, share your target retail price range and market and we will advise.
For value and DIY retail channels, drill in the 30–45 Nm range typically match the performance expectations of entry-level consumers and keep unit costs competitive. For trade and professional contractor channels, buyers generally look for 60 Nm and above — this range covers most hardwood, metal, and masonry applications and supports premium pricing at retail. Brushless models at the higher end of this range are standard for professional trade positioning. Confirm the torque spec for your target model at the sample stage.
